Spring is a time of renewal. Not only for the earth but for our spirit as well. I feel elated when I see sprouts of crocus and daffodil pop up from the cold, dark earth. It reminds me that the hidden bulbs are still living and breathing beneath the surface even though I can’t see them. I view those little plants as a metaphor for our lives. We sometimes lose ourselves under the weight of responsibility and our spirit sinks below the surface, into the darkness, to a place from which we fear it may never return.
How do we find strength when our spirit is lost and we feel hopeless? The best place to look is toward the community. A community can include church, culture, exercise, spirituality, hobbies, the list is endless. The one thing all communities have in common are like-minded people. Think of the word community as, “common-unity,”; a coming together of people that can listen to your stories, lift you up, and give you strength. Our culture of technology has caused us to feel more loneliness and isolation than ever before. Are you having trouble finding the spirit that you know lives inside you? I encourage you to break the cycle and find a community to engage with.
